Excerpt:

Chapter 1: What is Presence?

You are always in the here and now. Think about it, when are you ever anywhere else? Presence is a state of being. It’s a type of awareness that you have in the moment that causes you to be fully engaged in whatever you are thinking, feeling, and doing in that moment. It’s a state through which you become truly empowered to create the life you want to live.

Presence is a realization that whatever you are initiating and whatever you are drawing forth into your life energetically and materially is always a result of your consciousness. So using your consciousness to dwell on the past or to worry about the future is simply counter-productive. Your point of power is always in the present moment. It’s not in the past, because that’s over with, and it’s not in the future, because that’s yet to come. You are always here and now. You are never truly anywhere else.

Being present means acknowledging your responsibilities, facing up to the issues in your life, and taking inspired action that’s aligned with what you truly love. It’s an inherent knowing that you have the power to positively affect your life experiences by being aware of what’s going on within you and around you right now. As such, you can choose to make the present full of joy, faith, and trust.

Understand that you have choices in life. Things don’t just happen to you, although on the surface it may appear as though they do. In truth, every moment gives you an opportunity to participate in what occurs in your life, and you are participating whether you are aware of it or not. As such, you are the one setting the tone for your own life experiences.

Your life experiences are simply a reflection of the dominant energy you’re putting out into the world. As such, it makes sense to be conscious of your thought patterns, your feelings, and your subsequent actions so that you can be aware of what you are attracting into your life.

Being present allows you to fully experience each moment by bringing awareness to your thoughts, feelings, beliefs, and actions. You don’t have to monitor your thoughts 24/7. Rather, simply use the present as your guide to help you understand what you are attracting into your life, and as such, to help you truly create the happiness you seek from the inside-out.

Don’t let fear or uncertainty get the best of you because this will cause you to make hasty assumptions, as well as desperate attempts to predict the future and force or manipulate life’s events into what you feel needs to happen. Know that we only try to control, force, and manipulate everything to go the way we think it “should” when we lack faith and trust in ourselves and in Divine Order.

The ego has a tough time with uncertainty because it means not always knowing what’s ahead. As a result, being present in the face of uncertainty can sometimes feel uncomfortable and even intimidating. But you don’t need to know every step ahead of time in order to trust that all is well. Just start with the step in front of you. Then one step at a time you will not only have arrived at your desired destination (or somewhere even better), but you will also have arrived through joyous means and in total faith.

Your life is a series of steps, each one playing a significant role in the bigger picture, each one leading you to the next one and the next. Realize that your life is not just about your final destination; it’s about the experiences you have along the way. Every step and every moment is its own destination. Every moment is an opportunity to feel something, to create something, to enjoy something, and to share something. But it’s up to you to choose the proactive route that’s devoid of fear and full of love instead.

You have it in you to change your circumstances if you want to. All you need to do is change your consciousness right now and keep it focused in the right direction. Just use your feelings as your guide. Your feelings are of great value to you. We are often taught to stifle our feelings in fear of appearing vulnerable and weak. But what we frequently don’t realize is that feelings are what actually empower us the most.

When you are aware of your feelings in the moment you are also aware of the thoughts that may be contradicting your truth and blocking your ultimate happiness. As such, you can use your feelings as feedback to help you adjust your thoughts and focus so that you are no longer thinking those unproductive thoughts that caused your negative feelings in the first place. Consequently, you will be able to take the reactive nature out of your behavior, and instead, make choices that are aligned with peace, love, and trust. When you understand what’s going on within you, it’s much easier to affect what’s happening outside of you too.

As you start to use presence to your advantage you will recognize how empowered you truly are, and as a result, you will start to appreciate life a lot more. Being present is all about appreciation. It’s about noticing what’s around you, who’s beside you, and the true self that’s within you. It’s about being aware of and appreciating the beauty that surrounds you; the beauty you often take for granted when you are in your rush to get things done.

Being present is also about being accepting of who you are and where you are in your life right now. It’s about understanding that there are synchronicities occurring in your life in every moment, and as such, everything has its reason and purpose for you. Subsequently, presence is about being conscious enough to recognize the guidance you are being given in every moment from a part of you that knows best.

When you are present you are better able to relax into the flow of life because you can trust that you will always know what to do when the time is right. As such, you are more likely to be fully engaged in whatever you are doing in the moment, without worrying over how it will turn out. When you are present you do what you do for the sake of enjoying it and making the best of it in the moment, without being attached to a specific outcome or agenda.

Being present is about realizing the grandness of The Universe and the role you play in the bigger picture of life. It’s about recognizing the scope of your purpose on this planet and the truth of who you are at your core. Being present is about being aware of your existence and the power you have in each moment to positively affect your life and the lives of others.

Being present is about understanding the truth of your inherent good. Know that what makes you good is not necessarily adhering to certain standards or principles. What makes you good is the simple fact that you are who you are right now. Meaning, what makes you good is the truth beneath all of your false identities, all of your hatred, all of your fears, all of your insecurities, all of your jealousies, and all of your ego-driven behaviors. What makes you inherently good is simply the fact that you are one with the Power of Creation, right now and always. But whether you express this truth or not is totally up to you.

We are all dynamic beings meant to experience total fulfillment. At our core, we are all deserving of love and the glorious, infinite bounty of The Universe. We are also all here to express something important. As such, being present is about infusing purpose into everything you do and with everyone you meet, simply because you know how powerful an impact this can have on the lives of others, not to mention your own. Being present is about joyously expressing your purpose and passions in ways that are authentic to you.

Being present is not about instant gratification. Rather, it’s about recognizing the cause and effect relationship and how every decision you make has a profound effect on your life and the lives of those around you. It’s about realizing that you have choices to make and that the choices you make right now will have an impact on what you experience not only in this moment, but in your future as well.

Now keep in mind, being present isn’t about feeling pressured not to make a “mistake.” Just because what you do now has an effect on your future doesn’t mean you can’t change your choices from moment to moment. Every moment is a new starting point so even if you feel you’ve taken a wrong turn somewhere, all you need to do is start over. Know that every moment is full of opportunity and possibility and that you can shift your momentum at any time simply by choosing to do so.

Being present is ultimately about trusting in the process of life and letting go of the need to control every detail. It’s about knowing that you are cared and provided for, and it’s about allowing yourself to be guided by an Infinite Wisdom that always has your best interest in mind. Simply learn to be more present in your moments and you will know what it means to truly live a blissful life.
